    Alaska National Guard to provide aid for Biden inauguration

    JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — The Alaska National Guard says about 80 of its members volunteered to provide assistance for President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

    Lt. Col. Candis Olmstead says the National Guard Bureau and District of Columbia National Guard made a request for states to send support.

    She says after Gov. Mike Dunleavy approved the request, guard members were able to volunteer. She says there was a tight deadline to meet to ensure the guard members were briefed, equipped and prepared to leave on Sunday.

    Biden will be sworn in Wednesday, two weeks after a mob stormed the Capitol as lawmakers were certifying results in Biden’s election victory.
