
Nome, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska State Troopers said an air rescue failed but a canoe rescue did not.
A dispatch from troopers in Nome said they were alerted by the White Mountain Village Public Safety Officer that search and rescue crews from Golovin and White Mountain were on scene with three individuals.
The two all-terrain vehicles they were on got stuck and they were trapped in the overflow in Golovin Bay.
Joseph Fagundes, 29, Stephanie Fahey, 27, and Adrian Barr Jr, 23, were ablet o stand on top of their four-wheelers as they became submerged in open water.
An air rescue was attempted but was unsuccessful early Monday. Two hours later a canoe was able to reach the trio and bring them to safety.
They were all treated at the White Mountain clinic.
