Temblor strikes at sea near Sitka on Monday

Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred 32 miles southwest of Sitka, the United States Geological Survey reported on Monday.

The quake hit at a shallow depth of 7.1 miles beneath the epicenter near Sitka at 1:19 p.m. local time.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Monitoring identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.

No significant damage has been reported.
