Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The US Forest Service plans to give Lena Beach a makeover starting later this month.

Lena Beach is one of Juneau's most popular recreational beach sites.

The makeover will include additional picnic shelters, paving the road and pathways to the new vault toilets, installation of a spigot for freshwater and other improvements.

Forest Service officials said the public should expect some temporary closures on the property.

The improvements are expected to be ready for this summer.

The facility includes a kayak launch, tide pool adventures, and fishing from the shore.

Juneau Ranger District Ranger Brad Orr said he thinks the public will be pleased with the finished product, "Planning for this began in 2013 and we very much appreciate everyone's patience as we worked through the construction phases."

Project funding came from the USDA Forest Service' Capital Improvement Project funds.
