Howard Sherman.
Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Howard Sherman, Executive Vice President, will speak before the Southeast Conference Mid-Year Summit today.
Sherman also appeared on the KINY Morning Show with Steve Holloway and gave a sneak peek about the companies' work on the subport.
He said they have been learning about the community. They have been collecting ideas and are waiting on the Visitor Industry Task Force and not get out ahead of the work they are doing.
"We don't want to say here's our plan. We want to hear from them as well," he noted.
He noted they would also like to link onto the seawalk. Another priority is shore power. This would allow cruise ships to turn off engines while in port and stop the burning of emissions.
"It is better to plug in and pay Alaska Electric Light and Power. That benefits the ratepayers here in Juneau," he said.
They also want the buildings on the problem to be multi-use. He said he wants the facility to be used year-round by the citizens of Juneau.
"We want the facility to be at least as valuable to the citizens of Juneau as it is to the cruise line," he added.
They continue to meet with the CBJ and also the backers of the Ocean Center.
"The Ocean Center was an idea for that property. That is very much in our plans for the site," he added.
