Man medevaced from yacht near Ketchikan

Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) - A man was medevaced by the Coast Guard from a yacht near Ketchikan on Wednesday.

Two paramedics from the South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department and a crew from Station Ketchikan rescued the man, who was reportedly having stroke-like symptoms.

"We have an excellent partnership with South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department and we're proud to have worked together to get this man to the care he needed as quickly as possible," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Isaak Linkous, who was part of the medevac.

The call was received by Sector Juneau shortly after 5 a.m., and the response arrived less than an hour later.

A second boat crew was dispatched to tow the 55-foot yacht "Graceful Lady" back to town.
